Everytime the kernel gets updated the grub conf is new created (by dpkg).
During this you will lose the options you hace set in the kernel line.
YOu won?t lose it if you also put your Options in the line:

/etc/grub/menu.lst:
.
.
.
## nonaltoption boot targets option
## This option controls options to pass to only the
## primary kernel menu item.
## You can have ONLY one nonaltoptions line
# nonaltoptions=quiet vga=0x317 hdc=ide-scsi
.
.

dpkg parses this "comented out Options and will set your Kernel options
right.

Same with:
## altoption boot targets option
## multiple altoptions lines are allowed
## e.g. altoptions=(extra menu suffix) extra boot options
## altoptions=(recovery mode) single
# altoptions=(recovery mode) single vga=0x317

but altoptions will set the defaults for the "recovery mode" entrance.

bye Thilo
