amarok & ipod

I just got a hand-me-down iPod shuffle, and am surprised how easy it was
to get to work with Kubuntu and amaroK. One question (maybe two ;-) ):

   1. Is there a way to tell if I am trying to load too much on the iPod
*before* i get an error message during transfer?
   2. If I keep loading until I get the device full error, will I
      eventually harm the iPod?
