editor for mp3

Hello,
 does anyone know a prog to cut mp3? I have recordings from internet-radio and 
will change the beginning and the ending with a fade in (-out) without 
transcoding the mp3. With windows i used mp3DirectCut but i found nothing for 
linux. I use kubuntu 6.10.
Now i use audacity but it transcodes the the file.
