unreliable syncing with treo 680 and anything

using Ubuntu Dapper and trying to sync my new 680 with pretty much
anything. i've managed to sync it a few times via usb but it's random
and i can't seem to re-create the steps when it works (primarily because
it seems to randomly work).

i've tried:

evolution
kpilot
jpilot

and the only one i've manage to get to work is evolution.

does anyone have any suggestions on making this work a bit more
frequently? this is getting rather frustrating.
