Can you try installing the printer via the CUPS web interface? To do that:

1. go to localhost:631 in any web browser
2. Click on "Add printer" and follow the steps

The reason for this is that I am trying to see if this is a problem
with KDE or a problem with the cups installation. Also, this may get
you to being functional quicker than trying to debug something in kde.
