Virtual PC 7 (Mac OSX) and Ubuntu/Kubuntu

This might be for vmware but I think that it doesn't run in 32bit colour 
which is what Ubuntu starts in.

Can you get a text prompt?

If so try running:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

and change it from 32bit to 16bit graphics and see wether that helps or 
not...
