The dirty little secret that most everyday ms office users seem to miss
is that, due to printer and font differences and the selections made in
the ms office Tools>Options>Compatibility dialog, ms documents are not
that compatible from machine to machine running the same version of the
ms program.
One thing that ms does better than OO (though OO has improved) is the
rationality of the Document Object Model. Unintended formatting changes
resulting from deleting things tend to be more consistent, predictable
and rational in the ms suite, because the widely known DOM defines what
is stored in paragraph markers, where styles are stored, etc.
