No objections. The tricky part is to not leave a pager widget on upgrade that has one virtual desktop. As long as you clean up the panel on upgrade (or teach the pager widget to be invisible if there's only one - this would be a cleaner upgrade experience for those that have manually set their desired number of desktops), go for it.
