The simple fact that I'm writing this response using dapper 6, upgraded
through the last few months weekly (or thereabouts) from dapper 2 on an
amd64 version of Kubuntu means that Canonical is devoting enough
resources to Kubuntu. I am using an *alpha* release on a desktop machine
and have no problems with it. This isn't just about me -- it's about
having great developers in kde itself.

Also, most of kubuntu/ubuntu/xubuntu/edubuntu is all the same thing!
Same kernel, same base utilities, etc. I'd be willing to bet that that
those Canonical dev's who use gnome do so out of personal preference and
not because they have to.

The simple fact behind the kubuntu/ubuntu split is that Ubuntu came
first. Kde came as kubuntu-desktop and was only later spun off into a
separate iso (IIRC).
