For me this was to do with my VPN connection and I have found a work-around. I edited the file matching the name of my VPN connection in:
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/

I changed 'password-flags=1' to 'password-flags=0'

and added a section like this:

[vpn-secrets]
password=XXXXXXXX

where XXXXXXX is my password in cleartext.
