Same problem here.   Audio CD insert provides no feedback (no desktop
icon, no indication that it is mounted). Yet,  players work with it
fine.  Just no auto mount.

 Kubuntu 8.10, KDE 4.1.3
Linux walkubu 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 29 19:28:32 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
