Incidentally, there is also this. I now often, if not always, have to
run "Add/Remove Programs" or "Adept" twice to access the program. On the
first run, it shows itself in the tray with the hourglass, and the
cursor has an hourglass, for about 10 seconds, then the program
disappears, with the hourglass icon. Running the same program again will
bring up the password confirmation dialogue, afterwhich the program dies
as above.
