Hello Justin, and sorry for the incomplete info. Here goes, from start
to finish.

Clean install of Gutsy Gibbon Kubuntu Tribe 1 from Live! Cd.
Reboot.
After first login to GUI, click on the "Update Notifier" in the Tray, by the Time.

Adept opens and notifies you of updates available. Fetch updates.

Adept downloads and installs updates. Here things go funky:

Upon completion of insallation of updates, Adept returns an error box
with the title "Could not commit changes - Adept Updater", followed by
the text "There was an error commiting changes. Possibly there was a
problem downloading some packages or the commit would break a package."
The only available button is "OK", clicked. Adept states "Update
Complete", "Quit" button clicked.

Reboot.

Green light given in Tray area.

Click "Add/Remove Programs". Adept opens with the following error
message in the title bar: "Could not open cache - Adept Installer", with
the box text "The APT Database could not be opened! this may be caused
by incorrect APT configuration or some similar problem. Try running apt-
setup and apt-get update in terminal window and see if it helps to
resolve the problem". "OK" clicked, program exits.

Open "Adept Manager". Same error message as above.

Open Konsole.

Run "sudo apt-setup". Returns "command not found".

Run "sudo apt-get install apt setup", returns:
        Reading package lists... Done
        Building dependency tree
        Reading state information... Done
        E: couldn't find package apt-setup

Run "sudo apt-get update", returns:

Reboot

At command line, ran "sudo aptitude". Program started and "looked"
normal, although I did not try to install anything at this point. I did
update the package list while here, though. No errors noted.

At command line, ran "sudo apt-get", it ran, ie: it gave me the list of
parameters and command line switches. Again, did not attempt to download
anything while there.

Reboot.

In Kubuntu GUI, problem persists in both "Add/Remove Programs" and
"Adept Manager" despite updating while in "command line aptitude".

I hope this helps!
