Public bug report changed:

Comment:
Two things to report:

1) kernel update 19 still refuses to boot with a scsi kernel dump error
message.

2) I compiled the just released vanilla 2.6.16 kernel on breezy (with CC=gcc3.4). This has the 3.0 version of aic79xx in it. The kernel boots fine (in breezy) WITHOUT ERROR and moreover cd-burning appears to be FUNCTIONING FINE except for the following kernel messages:

[17180127.364000] scsi: unknown opcode 0xe9
[17180127.364000] scsi: unknown opcode 0xed
[17180128.208000] scsi: unknown opcode 0x01
[17180312.152000] scsi: unknown opcode 0xf5
[17181369.648000] scsi: unknown opcode 0xeb

which are also seen on a standard breezy boot with kernel 2.6.12-10-686-smp

Ben, does this suggests that the aic79xx driver is not the fundamental
problem here?

This whole thing is very confusing...
