Further report:

I installed the vanilla 2.6.16 kernel on dapper as opposed to breezy
(previous report). This kernel fails to boot in an identical fashion to
the 2.6.15-17/18/19 standard dapper kernels.

So the latest kernel 2.6.16 with the latest aic79xx scsi driver works
fine on breezy and fails to boot completely on dapper.

Are there any simple tests I could run on dapper to find out exactly
what in userspace is triggering this problem?
