I want to apologize for starting on that tone. It was clearly an
inappropriate way to try starting a discussion.

>I'm been "maintaining" bzr for the last years being perfectly aware that the python3 support was important.
Thanks for your work, I actually use bzr quite often.

>If nothing is cast in stone yet though, would you be open to discuss
delaying the demoting until python2 itself is demoted ?

Well, the way it works is we need to demote everything that depends
/build-depends on python2 first. But yes, the goal is for it to be
demoted for 18.04 but that is a stretch goal - so waiting is certainly
an option.

>bzr is still used in various parts of the infrastructure supporting
ubuntu and I thought talk about taking care of those parts will come
before bzr is demoted, may be you know more than me about that ?

Moving from Main to Universe does not (at least in my understanding)
mean that we cannot use bzr as part of ubuntu infrastructure. It can
still get security updates, but we would not guarantee them from the
security team.

>Or may be supporting python2 use of bzr is having costs I don't realize
and you can shed some light on that ?

Nope, not at this time (Samba is the current key blocker that is
actually costing us - For bazaar that doesn't start costing us until
it's one of the few python2 holdouts left in main). As the reverse-
depends notes, some key packages are depending on bzr. I need to go
through all of them and determine why (and possibly file separate bugs
for them), before we can even consider moving bzr.

Just to be clear: absolutely nothing is cast in stone, I'm not a
decision maker on this, and it's not urgent at this time. I just wanted
to get a headstart on 18.04 so we have a better chance to have python2
out of main.

Title:
  Demote Bazaar to universe?

Bug description:

Bazaar development is in maintenance mode and there are not resources to port it to python 3.

This is not reach for archive action yet, I just wanted to start the
  discussion here.

Out of the discussion from UOS May 2016 there was talk about demoting
Bazaar from Main to Universe as part of us moving Python 2 eventually
  to universe. http://summit.ubuntu.com/uos-1605/meeting/22675/finish-
