This bug is about showing the hint by default.
The problem is: If I want to enter grub menu and notice that the hint is missing, I am probably not able to boot anymore. So I won't be able to google how to enable that hint. And if I was able to google, I woudn't need the hint, because I could google for the shortcut.

Bug description:
  On my Jaunty install grub shows on start up a message "press ESC to
  enter GRUB menu" with a countdown of 3 sec. In Natty there is no such
  message, I had to google to find out i have to press SHIFT.
