It's always possible that the display manager will come up before
plymouth has a chance to start; we favor faster boots over guaranteed
display of the splash screen.  When you get the black screen, do you get
any error messages, or does the screen just remain black?

What do you mean when you say that sometimes the animation "semi works"?

Title:
  plymouth animation doesn't alwas start

Status in “plymouth” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When i boot into linux (using GRUB) i get one of 3 results:
   a) my animation works fine
  b) the animaition semi works
  c) black screen
  then everything is to normal i get the login screen and all.

  at the moment im using the stargate screen but it happened with two
  others i used.
