More likely to be an issue with the bootloader or kernel rather than
with plymouth, I think.  Reassigning to syslinux for further triaging.

Bug description:
  The summary says it all.  I insert the disc into my MacBook Pro,
  reboot, hold down the C key.  It loads up the ISO loader screen.  I
  select "Install Ubuntu", the screen goes black and remains that way.
