Sorry that this bug got unattended at the moment of the report. If you
feel it is still an issue with currently supported versions of Ubuntu
please change the status back to "new".

Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager-core
do-release-upgrade -d (upgrade from ubuntu 6.04 lts to 8.04 lts
)stops with the following information:
Could not install the upgrades
The upgrade aborts now. Your system could be in an unusable state. A
recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a).
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and
include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.
