I believe that now power management is not active during update. Please
feel free to reopen the bug if it is still an issue with the last
versions of Ubuntu.
** Package changed: update-manager-core (Ubuntu) => update-manager
(Ubuntu)
** Changed in: update-manager (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Invalid

Title:
upgrade process can be interrupted by power management
Status in “update-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: update-manager-core
While doing a distribution upgrade from gutsy to hardy the power management kicked in after i left the system alone for a while.
After restarting I found out this had happened during the download process. The download had stopped (I just waited for a moment if it would resume but it did not)
As I was not sure how the upgrader would cope with the interruption, instead of fiddling around I ran the installer again after reboot.
After the reboot I started the upgrade again it failed (message was something like 'another synaptic running') - I had to find an delete the lockfile manually.
After going through the process of downloading the installer again it picked up where it had been interrupted (packages did not have to be downloaded twice). This time I stayed near the machine until completion.
I am not sure what would have happened if the interruption had been
stopped during the installation of the packages, but I have a bad
feeling about this occuring
==> power management should be disabled during upgrades
