If you type ctrl-alt-F1 on the client, you could have a better idea of
what's going wrong.

In a terminal, you can try to :

sudo gedit /var/lib/tftpboot/ltsp/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default'
-----
DEFAULT vmlinuz ro initrd=initrd.img quiet splash
------

I suppose you can wipe the 'splash' option to avoid splash screen and to
see how far it goes.

What kind of client are you trying to start (how old, how much ram ?).

Could you try with another client ? Netbooting with a laptop or
something...
