I've got lots.
When you say "A single hard-boot and my installation is gone", what, EXACTLY
do you mean? It won't just DISAPPEAR after a hard boot. Does it start to
boot? How far does it get? Can you hit "escape" during the 2 second
"grub" message at the beginning to get the kernel list? If so, you can
edit the kernel command line to take out the "quiet splash" options to
see more of what's going on during a boot.
Yes, I can Esc and I tried to boot with both the other options listed there. I tried fsck but it just wouldn't boot.
Well Now that you guys have taken interest I have started experimenting. Interesitngly the Acer has now started behaving ( by itself ) and can start up Edubuntu after a hard boot. However I cannot shut it down. It just hanfs when I try yo shut it down and the otions screen to log out / restart etc comes up.
The Dell Latitude C840 however cannot tolerate a hard boot.
Also it take 1 hour to install edubuntu and just 20 minutes for Ubuntu ??????
It sorta stops at the 85% mark for a very long time !
I will start trying other permutations when I have time next week and will let you know the details.
Thanks a lot for listening.
