Hello Jim,
Peharps your problem isn't solved yet.
> I am a newbee trying to build a EdUbuntu (6.06.1) thin client network for a local school.
The 6.10 version has got some enhancements, but 6.06 is working.
> I am using a PIII 500MHz w/ 256MB ram as a server and a PII 350MHz w/ 64MB ram as the 1st client.
256 Mb is a bit short (should be 512 plus 50 per client), but I ran
test-server with even less.

The normal login screen is graphical (ldm) but sometimes it fail to
switch into graphical mode.
If this is the problem, you can test typing alt-F7 to force graphical
mode.
If it doesn't work, you can try building again the lstp environnement
with :
sudo ltsp-build-client
Bon courage,
François
