Install 6.06.1 on ThinkPad R60 'sticks' at LSTP chroot

Hi, all,

I've tried six times to install edubuntu 6.06.1 on a ThinkPad R60. Each time, the installation stops 50% through the LSTP chroot step. The LCD goes black, except for two large white cursor-like rectangles. It looks like an old pong screen. The disk activitly light stops, too, so I assume the process hung.

Anyway, do any of these symptoms sound familiar to other installers?
