This can be a positive aspect too   8-}

Not necessarily specific to colo of course.  There's no technical
reason branch-per-dir's can't be cloned/updated in bulk, or that
colo'd branches can't be flung around one at a time.  But the apposite
inclinations are certainly opposite.
