I think there may be a need for some sort of critical warning to users
with the 0.4.x -> 0.5.x upgrade.  aptitude/synaptic/upgrade-manager will
do a upgrade as soon as it can and there is no warning that more than
just upgrading the plugin is required.

I have to admit I am moving rapidly towards restarting from scratch
since this would be cleaner.  I have only two branches that are going to
provide interesting activity and as a last resort I can compact all the
changes to a single commit without excessive pain.

OK, cool.

At what point will I need to be careful about metadata in the Subversion
repository?

I am glad you have been able to reproduce the problem -- saves effort
for me and there will be a fix :-)

BTW I am still a fan of using Bazaar as my Subversion client rather than
Git. but speed remains an issue.  Git is still way faster than Bazaar at
interacting with Subversion repositories.  More feedback after I have
created new branches using bzr-svn 0.5.0.
