It's been years since I used aptitude to deal with bleeding-edge code,
so memory is fuzzy.  But ISTR that there was a package called
apt-cache (most likely) that would do you the favor of hanging on to
old .debs.

Yes, it would be nice if the Bazaar project would do it for you, but
it's also nice to have some self-defense capabilities....
