It looks odd to me too, but was necessary to avoid error. Not including
the .git/ directory meant that tailor fell over at an earlier stage,
with the message "Not a git repository: '/joe/code/MGa/'.

That's what I'm guessing. I'm using the latest git (1.5.0). I'll take
it to the tailor people themselves and report back.
