In my /etc/papersize file (which is what paperconf and paperconfig
use), the size is already set to letter.

This appears to make no difference at all in what the Simple Scanner
(/usr.bin/simple-scan) chooses to decide for the scanned image.

If I reset the Preference for paper size to Letter for feeder scans,
it works, and if I leave it on Automatic, it scans Letter sized images
one at a time on the platen.

It seems pretty screwy to me.
