Android/IOS is your unified future. As phones/tablets gain power and
popularity and technology creates integration, you will soon carry your
"PC" core in your pocket and drop it in the environment of choice for
use...

- Home: cast to tv for monitor and input devices on rf or bluetooth ( a
Microsoft product as I recall). Also, we already have smart homes and the
accompanying apps you can load on your ... phone or tablet.
- Car: already exists to wireless-ly integrate with the modern cars'
console. and technology to retro integrate with older cars.
- Work: Conceivable and similar to Home with security access, like keys,
integrated into the phone/tablet and companies using shared workstations
activated with phone/tablet. I had started working on similar using USB
sticks.

Phone/Tablets, like laptops, are close to outpacing our current PC/Laptop
models. They provide the convenience of portability and ease of use. How
many computer "illiterate" people you know can zip through their phone like
a pro. At least Android is rooted in Linux. How long before Google
decides to cut to the chase and put the android core on ROM to
significantly cut the lag (relatively speaking) between flash drive and
processor. To this FOSS may migrate, if not already doing so, to the apps
development for this model. Even the phone will have a limited life of
less than a generation if the technology for the "wrist phone" (not the
watch) develops, which projects the phone interface on your wrist and
sensors detect finger placement for touchscreen functionality. I dare say,
this future was brought on by one teacher's desire to give the world a
functioning kernel and a dedicated group who thought information should be
freely (libre) available and accessible through freely (libre) available
software. The proprietaries would have still been milking the PC market
IMHO.
