Joao, welcome to Linux and in particular Xubuntu.

If you are looking for network back-up AMANDA is an option I had good luck
with when I did such things.

As Francois pointed out "rsync" is an easy solution.

for instructions from command line:
man rsync

If you need GUI then install "grsync"
