[xubuntu-users] dragging document icons to reposition them in the top menu-bar-type icon list apparatus

Hi Xubuntu,

So, first, what is the name of the GUI element that exists along the
very top of the screen?

Each element seems to be an application, or maybe a top-level window
in an application.

I'm calling it a menu-bar, but i think that i'm totally wrong with my
words, but i don't really know what else to call it.

Anyhow, i have a problem with it.

I want to arrange the icons in a different order.

Not forever, but just for a few hours, when i'll want to drag them to
some other order.

But when i try to drag them, or control-drag them, or shift-drag them,
or alt-drag them, they remain firmly planted where they are. (They
seemed to be grouped by application, and for the particular move i
want to make, i wouldn't even disrupt that grouping. But i can't even
move one of the icons one slot over.)

Thanks in advance for any info, both as to the terminology, and second
as to how to move these stubborn little icons.

dan
