No, you're absolutely right.

But other unwelcome changes have snuck up on Linux users over the years
-- they may well have been discussed on dev mailing lists too, but most
users aren't on those.

Stamp out the nonsense by all means, but let's be certain that it *is*
nonsense before stamping :-)
