[xubuntu-users] Vertical xfce4-panel items broken after upgrade to 16.04

Hi.

For some time now I've had the xfce panel set up vertically to one side.
Since I upgraded to 16.04 the items on the panel that have text or do
not fit in a nice little square are rendered horizontally. The biggest
problem is with the clock: I have it set up in fuzzy mode and can see
only one letter.

On another computer that also has been upgraded to 16.04 (but has less
mileage and custom setup) these problems haven't surfaced.

Is there anything to be done?
