HD Boot order:  Ubuntu, XP, Data

I can report now the error message does not appear if the GRUB times out,
but does appear if I press enter to select the Ubuntu Boot up.... even 
though, both lead to Ubuntu booting....

I am happy to leave it that, thanks again for your patience, I will now 
exercise some, and just not press enter!!! Ha!
