it turned out that the culprit is

https://github.com/lxde/libfm/commits/master

so I'm now aware that I need to care about other software that might
use libfm to avoid the issue, even while it's fixed for lxpanel.

In addition I already can use a fixed libfm for lxpanel usage and don't
need to wait for the next libfm release.
