If you're happy to do so you can edit the firefox.desktop file as root
/usr/share/xfce4/helpers/firefox.desktop
The very bottom 2 lines
X-XFCE-Commands=%B -remote "openURL(about:blank,new-window)";%B;
X-XFCE-CommandsWithParameter=%B -remote "openURL(%s)";%B "%s";
need to be replaced with
X-XFCE-Commands=%B;
X-XFCE-CommandsWithParameter=%B "%s";
