14.10 is the first *buntu install I have had that's given problems. I started 
with Ubuntu 6.10 and each worked fine. 2009 I switched to xubuntu and used LTS 
from 2010. I'd prefer an annual release that's well tried and tested. LTS in 
the second year ends up being quite out of date. But the intermediate releases 
are getting buggier and buggier - Mint it seems are going down the LTS route 
without 6 month release (I think). However, I did try Mint a few weeks ago and 
that crashed too.

Xubuntu is still the best in the xfce DE. Just wish they would take more time 
in development and testing. It's not that rpm distros like Fedora and Opensuse 
are bad - just whether one can stand the slow package management with Yast and 
Yum. Pclos uses synaptic and that's about as fast as debian based distros so 
it's not that rpm is slow.
