I never (or at least seldom) had issues with plug'n'play regarding to
detecting the hardware by the software. I never damaged the electronic
of a mobo or ps2 device when I connected, while the computer was
running. Unfortunately I damaged both, the male jack and the female
jack. The connectors are a PITA.
