I have had this problem in the past.  My workaround, since I never save 
my sessions, is to empty and change the permissions on the directory

                   ~/.cache/sessions


to 0555 (e.g. no write access for anyone).  This works and doesn't seem 
to cause xubuntu any particular problems.
