Geany may be worth looking at.

The version in the 14.10 repos is up to date. Actively developed with
it's own message boards. Include wide ranging plugin support for a
variety of tasks, from basic text editing, markdown, LaTeX,
programming, etc. I've used it in Ubuntu since discovering it in
Crunchbang.
