[xubuntu-users] Interesting scanner problem

Hope somebody around here knows about this, even though it's not
strictly xubuntu:
I have a Canon PIXMA MX410 and the scanner works great with xsane and
the sane backend.
I tried to use Simple-Scan, which supposedly is just a frontend for sane
but, surprise, surprise, my scanner didn't show up.
Any ideas?
