I've always found Skype to be almost impossible to find logically how
to get it to 'see' the microphone.  I've usually played around for a
frustrating time turning on and off various options within Skype and
in the pulsaudio settings and it then suddenly works for no apparently
good reason.

So, just fiddle around for a while is my advice.
