PS: I for sure had much better luck than you have got, after I bought a
professional sound card (not prosumer, really professional) that was
recommended by the Linux audio developers mailing list. It's completely
useless for Linux and much more expensive than all my other computer
gear does coast altogether. Linux and hardware aren't friends, if you
use Linux, because you are the kind of person who is unable to use the
two "important" proprietary OSes for e.g. ethical reasons, you need to
have a good sense of dark humor.
