This seems not to be caused by a package you updated, but an issue of
the Software Updater. Even switching a kernel is possible without
rebooting. There are less reasons to reboot, the most likely reason is a
kernel update. I suspect the Software Updater noticed a kernel update
and then notified to reboot, but then the fault isn't caused by the
kernel package, the blame is on the Software Updater.
Is it possible to reboot as user using a panel applet or something else?
