[xubuntu-users] Monitor goes into powersaving mode on XUbuntu boot

Hey Everyone,

I'm having a hell of a day and I'm hoping someone can help make it
better. Here's what's going on:

I have an AOC 17 inch monitor. When I boot XUbuntu under "normal" mode,
it goes right up until it should be starting the desktop then the
monitor kicks into powersaving mode (just as if I'd turned off the
computer). But when I boot into basic video mode, it runs fine.

This has also happened with an install of Fedora and a 'desperate'
install of Windows XP. Right before it gets to start loading the GUI,
the monitor kicks off.

I'm assuming this has something to do with the OS asking for a
resolution the monitor doesn't support (right?) but I can't figure out
how to get around it. The Fedora folks said I could edit
~/.config/monitors.xml but it isn't in the expected place.

Right now, I'm in Fedora 14 (the only thing that works) and can't
upgrade or go to Xubuntu as it brings up the problem.

Can anyone help? I want to get back to Xubuntu or even, dare I hope, fix
what's happening across installs.

If it help, when I look at my monitor details, it's labeled as an
Unknown monitor at 1280x768 and a refresh rate of 0 (which I assume just
means default).

Help, please!

Anthony
