[xubuntu-users] New laptop and UEFI

My old laptop had died so I looked around for a new one. Usual problem,
finding one without any OS installed. I finally found a company which
would set up a laptop according to my specification and where I could
also say that I didn't want any OS installed.
I also realised that it would now have UEFI set up instead of the old
BIOS. I was a bit concerned about it as this is new to me. I was told
that they would still install Win 8 in order to test the machine, that
Win 8 would be left on the machine with a 30 day trial licence, but that
secure boot would be disabled.
When the machine arrived I had problems, it would insist on Win 8 only.
A call to the help line and I found out that secure boot *was* enabled
after all. Got this sorted and installed Xubuntu 13.04 with no problems.
I removed Win 8 along the way.
Now when I log in it all works as expected. This is because secure boot
is disabled. I am perfectly happy with that since my computer is just
for me, and is not used in any way for business purposes. Now I am
wondering if any members have experience of UEFI and if so, have they
had any problems?
Just wondering, since all new computers are going to have UEFI on them,
Neil
