I don't know, so I'l leave that question to others. It seems worth
mentioning, though, that because X allows partioning the load
you may be able to get quite good performance from a setup
using one older machine as a X terminal and another as host.
Years ago a penniless friend did that, using a 100 MHz 486
and several Sparc machines (40 MHz RISC chip, 128K RAM).
My machine at the time was something like an 800 MHz
Pentium III and he got comparable performance on most
tasks.
