if you've little or no personal data on the machine, back up /home and
do a clean install of Xubuntu, probably easiest.

Hi jr,

A fresh install. Mind if I shriek?

Normally, I use a flash disk to store data, so there is relatively little on the hard drive. I was able to boot with a mint thumb and retrieve the half-dozen documents in the Home folder. I'm also running some sort of disk checker and it is reporting some errors.

I suppose starting over isn't really so bad, it'll get rid of all that kde crap, but I will have to download a copy of xubuntu. I'm not a super tech, especially with Linux. Any advice on how to do a new install over a bad one?

Thanks,
Jan
